About Heatmiser  - Keep inventing and Keep it simple

Where it all began...

Heatmiser UK, originally G&M Kay, was formed in 1968 by Gordon and Margaret Kay in Darwen, Lancashire. Throughout the 70s the company undertook electrical and heating installation work on behalf of British Gas, Local Government and other local companies.

The very first Heatmiser...

In the mid 80s, whilst still working closely with British Gas, Gordon Kay decided it was time to design an all new, more user friendly heating control to compliment his installation business. This original design was undertaken by an outside design company, but proved there was certainly a market for simple to use controls.

Building on the first...

In 1988, after bringing the design team in house, an all new three zone heating control was designed - and was the first control to be given the name "Heatmiser" It was also taken on-board by British Gas and was branded with their logo.

Throughout the 90s

The 90s were certainly a busy period for G&M Kay, with the company designing products for many industry leaders such as Hamworthy Heating (UK) and Roberts Gordon Inc (USA)

The companies own product range had also grown in size, and now included a full range of controls for the warm air and radiant heating market as well as boiler sequence controls. Installation work was also being carried out for many UK councils including Leeds City Council, Blackburn Borough and Anglesey County Council. The mid 90s saw Martyn, Gordon and Margarets only son enter the family business.

2001 Name Change...

Taking on-board the suggestion from their marketing consultant, it was decided the company name would change from G&M Kay to Heatmiser UK Ltd - giving strength to the Heatmiser brand and just in time for the companies next challenge - targeting the domestic market.

2003 - Heatmiser enters Domestic Underfloor Heating Market...

The company entered the underfloor heating market with the launch of their new range of stylish, flush mounting thermostats and wiring centres. The new system went further than the norm by offering central and remote control of the customers heating system. Leading UFH manufacturers, stockists and installers saw the benefits of the system and introduced the system into their range.

Today...

With Gordon now enjoying his retirement, Martyn and Sarah (Gordon and Margarets youngest Daughter) are now tasked with continuing the success of the family business.

Today, the company employs 30 Staff and have their own assembly facility at their Blackburn site with state of the art pick and place SMT Machines, Reflow Ovens and Flow Soldering Machines.

Heatmiser UK supplies its products to leading underfloor heating manufacturers and installers and exports products as far away as Australia & New Zealand.
